Other offerings for young people like you are tennis and soccer: Almost each and
every town in the Land of Valencia has tennis clubs where you can practice your
skills against your friends or other people in the club. Most courts are
clay-courts. Fares range from $10 to $15 per hour, depending on the club.
Also, most appartement complexes and fine hotels have tennis courts (hard
surface).
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and Spaniards are very passionate
about it. During the summer many games are held on the beaches and public fields
where many people gather together and organize matches. If you, as a good SEU
student, like soccer, too, don't hesitate and ask to join a team. It is pretty
common there to ask, and you will probably get a "yes" as an answer.
However, if what you really like is watching professional soccer, your best
option is to attend one of the professional matches of Valencia's local team:
Valencia C.F.. Valencia C.F. is one of
top 5 Spanish teams, with championships in both Spanish and European
competitions. They play in Valencia's Mestalla Stadium. Also, C.D.
Villareal, from Villareal (Castellón) has joined the 1st divission league
this year, playing against top teams such as Valencia, Barcelona, and Real Madrid,
among others.
However, if you want to enjoy the ultimate sport experience, you must not miss a
game of Pilota Valenciana (Valencian Ball). It is our ancient and
most preciated sport, in which indivivuals or teams play against each other in
the streets and trinquetes (collisseums). The game is also popular in
regions of France, Belgium, and a couple of cities in Argentina.
